bacchus vineyard management

Bacchus: Who we are

We started the company in January 2004 based on one simple philosophy; provide personal and professional vineyard care. But we soon realized our clients also wanted a management company that could contribute to and participate in business planning, budgeting and costing, quality assurance programs, and other services that improved overall performance.

Our first year we farmed six vineyards totaling 30 acres. Today we manage approximately 400 acres of premium grapes. We have achieved significant growth while improving our capabilities to help you maximize your vineyard’s potential. All our vineyards are managed using a web based process that allows our supervisors, managers, and clients real time access to soil reports, petiole analysis, work orders, irrigation, mapping, phenology and more.  We even have the ability to track grapes from a specific block or row all the way through the winery, finally linking phenology, wine chemistry, and tasting notes to yields and farming costs.

Since we began, organic farming has been a growing percentage of our business. Now we have added additional management expertise to not only improve our organic capabilities, but bring us solid working knowledge of biodynamic vineyards.

If you are looking for a vineyard management company focused on continual improvement, advancing technologies, respect for the environment, and has a true understanding of wine quality…..give us a call.

Glenn Alexander

Glenn Alexander

After years as a passionate wine consumer, Glenn Alexander had the opportunity to move to Sonoma County and purchase a vineyard. A native Texan who grew up farming row crops, his upbringing soon led him to pursue a "hands on" approach to managing his grapes.

He completed the viticulture program at Santa Rosa College, interned with Preston Vineyards, and worked closely with long time Sonoma County vineyard manager Arturo Robledo before founding Bacchus Vineyard Management in January 2004. The first year, Bacchus farmed six vineyards totaling thirty acres. Today, the company farms four hundred acres and manages fruit for some of Sonoma and Napa's elite wineries.

"There are excellent farmers in Sonoma County, but we focused on providing an additional added value; solid business management tools. Budgets, plans, quantitative as well as qualitative analysis were made available to the grower and the winemaker. This enabled us to engage in a continuous improvement program with our clients."

Now he is taking the next step, leading the company's expansion of its organic farming operations, and the beginning of its biodynamic farming program.

Dave Komar

Dave Komar is a Sonoma County native who always knew he wanted to be in the wine business. At the age of 18 he enrolled in the viticulture program at Santa Rosa Junior College and continued his education at Cal Poly earning a B.S. in Fruit Science in 2003.

He supplemented his academic knowledge with practical experience as a harvest intern with Benziger in 2000 and worked with Wild Horse in Paso Robles while attending Cal Poly.

Upon graduation, Benziger hired him to manage their biodynamic estate pinot vineyard on Sonoma Coast. During the next few years Dave began managing additional estate vineyards for Benziger and Imagery working with multiple varietals in various appellations.

Dave joined Bacchus in January as Director of Vineyard Operations. An avid outdoorsman and surfer with an appreciation for his surroundings, he is a great fit with Bacchus and their approach to land stewardship and environmental responsibility.
